#2101: D-Link Xtreme N Desktop Adapter DWA522: working but G instead of N

OS: Fedora 9 (with all the latest patches as of 08/22/08), 32-bit
Network card: DLink Xtreme N Desktop Adapter DLK DWA522
Router: D-Link Xtreme N Gigabit Router DLK DIR655

I have installed DWA522 and compiled madwifi (the version that was
available on 08/22/08). I had to copy ifcfg-ath0 to ifcfg-wlan0 to make it
work. After modprobe ath_pci, the network card works fine but, I think, it
not running in N but in G mode. At least my router reports it as G
connection and at first glance I do not feel any speed increase (after
upgrading from G). Also, the light on the back of the card is off. From my
previous experience I would expect it to be flashing green.

Does madwifi support N for DWA522? If so how to enable it? Should one pass
some options to modprobe or compile madwifi with some extra options? How
else can one test if the card is operating in N or G mode?
