#2105: Ubuntu not recognizing Atheros AR242x card after MadWiFi installation

I'm a newbie to Linux, so forgive any bad jargon/confusion on my part.
Still learning. Here's the run-down, and please let me know what other
info you need to help me diagnose this:
I'm running Ubuntu Hardy Heron on a Compaq Presario C700. Trying to get it
to recognize my wireless card, an Atheros AR242x PCI card. Everything I
read pointed me to MadWifi as the solution, so I followed the tutorial,
successfully (I think - no errors) installing it. But after installation,
iwconfig only gives me this:
lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions.
when I do sudo lshw I get this for my wireless:

Ubuntu doesn't seem to be seeing the card at all. Perhaps I missed a step
somewhere? I did everything in the "First Time How To" tutorial up until
"Creating an Interface," because it says that "If your svn snapshot is
more recent than the 23rd January 2006" then you don't need to do that
part--and I assume I'm fine as I didn't use a snapshot (I think I
understand correctly that for my card no snapshot is needed?).
I appreciate any help on this you can give me. Let me know if you need
more info.
