The judges had some debate about this - some were of the opinion that it was important to encourage consistent use of the logo, and so if the logo was to be used flat on t-shirts and other merchandise, it should also be flat for the website. Others felt that it was more appropriate to keep the gradient for web, and lose it for places where flat colour was more appropriate. In the end, a majority suggested one logo to rule them all, at least during the initial period when the logo asserts itself, rather than encouraging the appearance of variants. This is certainly a discussion we could have again, but in the end the decision to do one or the other is fairly arbitrary.
