I wonder whether it's also worth to consider how hard it is to enter certain countries. Efforts required for getting a visum are obviously higher if you personally need to visit an embassy before. I personally haven't had to deal with this yet so this might be considered FUD, but I know some friends' stories. (And I personally don't feel happy with giving my fingerprints to any government to be allowed to enter its country, but I'll probably have to learn accepting what kind of world I'm living in.
