Hello,
I just created a patch for the original firmware image which is
downloadable from [see below] that modifies /etc/sudoers to allow
execution of any command as root.
# Download and unzip firmware image
wget
http://nds2.nokia.com/files/support/global/phones/software/Nokia_770_software_update.zip
unzip Nokia_770_software_update.zip
# Download and apply patch to modify sudoers
wget
http://wwwcip.informatik.uni-erlangen.de/~sithglan/770/sudoers.xdelta
xdelta patch sudoers.xdelta SU-18_0.2005.40-18_PR_F5_MR0_ARM.bin
sudoers.bin
After that you can Flash the firmware using this utility:
http://nds2.nokia.com/files/support/global/phones/software/Nokia_770_software_update_wizard.exe
Oh and don't forget to check the md5sum of the resulting image to be:
115765809c9d1d1b071a8313920d232f
