Try connecting the device directly to your computer, and not via USB hub. Also, avoid the USB ports on laptop docking station or front USB ports on desktop >case, as these can be behind a hub. Command "lsusb -t" shows the tree of USB devices.

Yeah, I tried both the front and back USB ports. Either way it doesn't work, and lsusb -t doesn't show me behind a hub on either of them.

I'm not on a suitable machine to check version numbers at the moment, but did you download flasher-2.0 from maemo.org?

Yep.

Note: I switched to a new computer (my last one just died) a couple days ago. So I have never successfully flashed the device on my current computer. I had many times on my old computer, then I had messed up the device for a little while (where it got into the continual reboot). At that point, the device wouldn't even let the flasher do anything; when it would boot there would never be a blue progress bar along the bottom, it jumped almost immediately to the screen with two hands on it. But then one day it started to boot with the progress bar again. At that point I had to switch computers because my last one died.

Any more ideas?

Thanks,
Dan
