I'm pretty sure this is why we haven't seen an OpenGL stack yet, and why we probably won't see one any time soon.

But the solution for the external framebuffer could also belong to 3D. One could render the 3d image to the internal framebuffer and transfer it via dma to the external one (which run in pixel doubling mode to provide full fps in 320x240 or in full resolution, than fps is limited to 15 fps.)
