But more importantly, MacOS X does not ellipsize, so at least in English it's not seen as all that important. If it's highly costly, why not dump it?
I don't get that "does not ellipsize" part. My wife's mac seems to have ellipsizing strings in both Finder and iTunes. Though I didn't find any label-like elements that would do that.
