It's not entirely clear what is an appropriate subject for this mailing list, but I'm fairly sure this is not a "maemo-developers" question. I'm not going to start arguing about what is "simple", but running copied executables is certainly possible. chmod may have failed because you're chmodding a file on the memory card: FAT does not support file attributes.
