Here's hoping someone more skillful than myself will fix up mplayer for 
the tablets :-)  It's faster than the default player and handles more
media.

I'd like mailcap to work as a fallback; it's simple, I understand it, and 
it's been standard in Unix for years. Apart from the streaming media 
playlists, I have entries on my desktop for things like Xfig, LaTeX DVI, 
PostScript, Excel etc. while installers for things like Java Web Start 
assume they can add mailcap entries.

Any application specifically written for the tablet would use DBUS, but
we might still port desktop applications which run from the command line.
