I recently got two devices (Novatel Mifi and Cricket A600) which are
network devices but first appear as CD ROMS of all things, but contain
the installer for the driver and configuration program for the
platforms. These are actually more annoying since you have to eject
the CD to turn on the wireless modem.

You could do a tiny (maybe ro) vfat or isofs with the usb network
driver, updater, backup, sync, etc. programs for both mac and windows
and anything else.

Plug it in and it might autorun the driver/utility install (especially
if it was pretending to be a CD/ISO).

Probably too late now, but there are other ways to do this. And it
would be nice to scan/index the files as they get uploaded instead of
the long freeze-ups while the whole filesystem is rechecked.
