I was thinking that the auto-builder would always calls maemo-optify,
and maemo-optify would do the rest: decide whether to do anything, check
for correct optification, etc.

Also, Debian tools might complain about a non-standard header.

But I can see your point, too.  I'll change it to use a header from
debian/control and see how that goes.
