I recognise this message - it is the message which you get when you run sudo (sometimes only the first time). The password is usually not needed if your username is in the sudoers file. The lecture is not given every time if you have "lecture=once" or "lecture=never" as options at the top of the file /etc/sudoers. So - the error message isn't weird, it merely indicates a call to sudo with a UID which isn't in the sudoers file as not needing to enter their password.
