What is the effect on git? Does this need to be more widely
communicated in a definitive page containing what/why/how etc.?

What is the impact of someone *not* doing this with their working copy?

Today's server move: good; however is this a suggestion that more
needs to be done on a project-by-project basis to realise the
benefits?
