Rebuilding with crosscompilation toolchain is better approach or course, but I doubt that it's easy doable for Maemo packages. It would require changes in big amount of packages. If you're brave enough you can try it. Just let me know and I will stop supporting current solution.
Even not considering above you might notice, that Maemo SDK is based on scratchbox.
