If you're hitting the "flasher never comes out of the 'waiting' stage"
problem, try these steps:
0) Run flasher up to the "waiting" point as described on the maemo wiki
1) Battery out
2) Wait 5 secs
3) Battery in
4) IMMEDIATELY plug USB in
5) IMMEDIATELY plug power in
Some of this may not be strictly neccessary, but ItWorkedForMe(tm).
