I've created a .profile in /home/user to set a couple of aliases, but it does
not get sourced when I run xterm. It works fine if I source the file manually.
Is there a different file I should set the aliases in?

Here's what I've done:
- add this lines to your .profile:
ENV=$HOME/.ashrc
export ENV
- create /home/user/.ashrc and put your aliases and all the ash-specific magics there
Voila', it works ;-)
