Hi Stell

thank you for your reply. You were right about intensiv io and crashes. Maemo 
mapper crashed often while downloding maps.
I tried fsck.vfat -at /dev/sde. It took ages and found many brocken files. 
Mostly 0kb maps. Anyway, I created a new partition and formated /dev/sde1. 
Works well so far.

It puzzled me that the fs type has to be vfat. ext2 seems not supported? That 
is as strange as the missing ogg support, eh ;-)

maybe you should write onto your mmc card fresh new filesystem?
it seems that crash occurs significantly often when device proceeds
with i/o (i.e. write) and you suddenly turn it off without any chance to 
finish pending process
