hi,

why not implement something like having the post-installed softwares
on the MMC (yes, i am aware of the speed issue) so that we can just
flash the what-so-ever firmware updates, and still be able to use
directly the installed software straight with little tweaking (perhaps
updates for these software are needed).

the issue is not about flashing the firmware for me, but the
reinstallation of *all* softwares all over again. From nokia consumer
product point of view, perhaps this is not their issues, since they
expect users to just buy the tablet and use without 3rd party
software. But i would assume otherwise, where users will automatically
have some 3rd party softwares, and they will hate reinstalling them
over and over again everytime after a (re)flash.

regards,
wahlau

How about in the backup storing a list of apps that were installed
from repositories and the repository list, then post flash offer to
reinstall some/all of the apps from the repositories - less likely to
break and less space needed for backup. (I assume there is some way
apps can have their settings stored/restored in the backup by saving
them in a place backedup/restored by the utility).

Simon
