I would doubt any updates are silent. These kinds of updates must be visible to end user so I would assume AppManager...but this only shows apps needing updating...not low level cruft.
So perhaps user would need to be instructed to switch to red pill mode temporarily to get a certain lib or whatnot. Then again nokia could certainly pkg fixes as a 1st class app and not require red pill...which is what they would prob' have to do for ease of use in general. For critical updates I would have to assume user wouldn't need red pill.
