I also have $20, down to $7 on Gismo.  Still works.  But then I use it 
every couple months.  It could be 6 months of dormancy, not 6 months 
since purchase -- that would seem to make more sense. 

It's possible that some problems using Gismo and/or Skype at hot spots 
could be related to some ISP settings that inhibit or prohibit VOIP 
activity as prevention against bandwidth overload (like downloading 
streaming vid's isn't a drag?).  Their issue may also be bandwidth 
uploading limitations.  Who knows.  Also, this 'firewall' may be at the 
ISP, not hot spot firewall.  The hot spot provider may not even be aware 
of the VOIP limitation.
