Thank you all very much. I edited the postinstall and preremove scripts and everything has started to work. I tried to enclose the cp and rm commands in an if-condition testing whether the file /tmp/shortcutd exists – in the postinstall script. There was still an error by running that condition so I tried to add an 'exit 0' command before it and the upgrade script silently finished with success. I then removed the exit statement but the erroneous condition didn't execute any more. Similarly with the preremove script.
