First of all, where did mikala say anything about "dropping right now"? GNOME and KDE4 already use upower and udisks i.e. they don't require hal at all. All the apps you picked (from the Fedora page?) can probably work without hal, (e.g. I don't have haldaemon running for about 4-5 months now, and gimp works OK). The point is, other major distros have already gone through the halsectomy phase, which means we have very rich resources to draw on. -- Ahmad Samir
