In bug #4635 I described how wifi keeps connecting/disconnecting continuously - by dmesg I found out that it seems to be related to udisks (pls don't ask me how it may be related).
Today I booted into that same Beta1 installation and wifi behaved correctly (coming up, staying up). A check with ping proved that internet was accessibly. Then I did a 'urpmi --auto-update' which failed with the message, that "service udisks (udisks-daemon) is not running or not ready". If my assumption in the first line of this mail is correct, then not having udisks running brings stable wifi connection but prevents me from using urpmi, udisks running lets me use urpmi (via cable connection) but not wifi.
