newbies usually don't want to install more than one DE. And this would
make the DE selection screen more complicated for people who only want
one DE.
i agree with the opinion of colin

Which screenshots are you talking about ?
screenshots that are showed during the installation process.

People who want more software can already run the package manager to
install the packages they need. I'm not sure there is a lot of software
that everybody wants to be installed that is not included on the livecd.
i think that everyone would appreciate if the system proposes to install:
- all the proprietary drivers your system needs
- all the multimedia codecs necessary to play your films and music (if
possible)
- some must-have programs related some use cases (e.g. kdenlive,
libreoffice) of the computer
i'm thinking about propose to install them, not to force someone to
install them).

I don't think this needs a feature page, doc team is already working on
some documentation. You can see with them if you want to participate in
documentation.
if you see my mockup you'll understand that it is related only in a
minor way to doc, but the important part of it is the fact that it's a
simple plasmoid that it is by default placed in the desktop. the normal
documentation is read only by a few people because they think is boring
and too stressive. this is more simple, it uses the graphics and only
explains how to use the key-feature of the distro.
