I'd like to update and fix the program if possible. The blacklisting is not needed anymore with recent cups(?) according to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/+bug/902970/comments/12 so removing the file from the cups package should be the solution. ChristiaanAre you sure we have the exact same cups usb backend as in recent *buntu versions? AFAIK usblp caused some segfaults and crashes, so it was blacklisted by default. But if any program loads it explicitely, it will work.
No, but I plan to update cups to 1.5.4 which has those fixes for usb AFAICT, see http://www.cups.org/str.php?L4128 . My printer is connected through my LAN so can't easily test usb access, however.
