VLC:
Audio output failed:
The audio device "default" could not be used:
Connection refused.

Is this typical of Mageia systems with Intel chipset/Realtek audio, or just a temporary problem with Cauldron and PLF apps? VLC in Fedora 18 on same system works fine. VLC audio troubleshooting is more difficult than otherwise because it can't be run as root without recompiling. As root, permissions trouble shouldn't occur.

With the troubleshooting instructions from MCC sound troubleshooting converted to this script (with instructions from https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2899#c4 added):
http://fm.no-ip.com/Tmp/Linux/Mdv/sndts.sh

This output results:
http://fm.no-ip.com/Tmp/Linux/Mdv/tsout.txt

Note there is no useful output from chkconfig, and that even though aumix is installed, /dev/dsp does not exist.

Does maybe the Realtek distinguish my problem from https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2899 ?
