To be fair: My personal experiences with the gateway tux99 set up were without problems. My personal experiences with gmane were next to useless, very slow (sometimes I read 3 or 4 replies in the list before the initial mail was offered in Gmane, sometimes mails were missing in the middle of a thread (tested it with the very lively mageia-discuss during the first 4 weeks last September/October). The problem with both: they are one-way streets. Forum users can read all mailing lists in the gateway but mailing list users only see what forum users posted in the mailing list forums, not what they posted in the rest of the board. As somebody wrote, web forums are slow. That depends. If you set them right in your profile you would be surprised! Turn off avatars and signatures, turn off display of included graphics. This way the forum runs with a reasonable speed on my smartphone with a very low bandwidth (down to 64KBit/s - ISDN speed). -- wobo
