Sorry folks, talking through the back of my neck as usual. I was
confusing native support for wireless adapters with ethernet support.
Linux seems to have caught up with the wireless world lately and I
have rarely had problems with ethernet except, as said, at install
time. The install network failure affects wireless also.
The fact that network connection succeeds on subsequent boots implies
that the necessary drivers/modules are already available on the
installation disk.
