In addition you may find you don't get any acceleration, making even window-dragging a little slow and painful. Or that's what I found using the 'DisplayPort" connector of my laptop, with an nvidia Quadro FX 880M. Also, neither that nor the ATI radion X1300 card in my desktop detected when I rotated the monitor in Linux, or if they did (more likely), they didn't act on it.
