Just a quick summary of recent experiences on test machine.
Alienware X51 : i7-2600 : 8Gb : nVidia GTX 555 : SATA 1 TB
grub boot in legacy mode OK
ethernet = Realtek RTL8111/8168B Worked out of the box
wireless = Atheros AR9285 Worked with some problems
Too flaky to continue with. Drops
out at inconvenient times
like in the middle of an update.
display = Geforce GTX 55 (OEM) XFdrake, nvidia 295.40 worked fine
login = GNOME Classic OK, but skipped on reboots
Feature or bug?
optical drive is a Bluray combo CD/DVD works out of the box
Other functions not tested
Logins and reboots are very fast
Session properties not accurately remembered over reboots
GTK2 versus GTK3 perhaps?
Mounted media do not show up on the desktop (as icons)
ssh works fine
