if it's X, it's probably the display, but since I seem to have the same one, I doubt that. OTOH, from time to time I've seen Firefox run away with resources and had to close it. After a few seconds everything returns to normal. Marc mentioned desktop effects - I do have them turned off. Jpbfree mentioned powertop - although I haven't used it myself I've read some excellent reviews - it's probably a good idea to try that. FWIW, when my system is at rest gkrellm displays the temperature as 39'C. Currently indexing is running ( the first update of the day) and it is now 49'C. Anne - -- Need KDE help?
