I've narrowed this down to a change that was made in between the 
following releases.

ImageMagick-6.3.9-10  - works correctly

ImageMagick-6.4.0-11  - is broken.

I can't be any more specific than that, since these are the two 
closest-spaced releases I find on this page: 
ftp://ftp.imagemagick.org/pub/ImageMagick/legacy/

Could someone who understands the ImageMagick internals take a look at 
this, please?
