I have recently been working with TIFFs produced by a Xerox Workcentre 7245, with scanning kit. IM handles the b/w TIFFs produced with it just nicely, but it can't handle the colour TIFFs. It identifies them as TIFFs but can't handle whatever compression method they are using.

When I try to convert one I get this:

convert: xerox_color.tif: unknown field with tag 512 (0x200) encountered. `TIFFReadDirectory'. convert: xerox_color.tif: unknown field with tag 513 (0x201) encountered. `TIFFReadDirectory'. convert: xerox_color.tif: unknown field with tag 514 (0x202) encountered. `TIFFReadDirectory'. convert: xerox_color.tif: unknown field with tag 515 (0x203) encountered. `TIFFReadDirectory'. convert: Sorry, requested compression method is not configured. `xerox_color.tif'.

It has to be said that IM is not the only tool which has a problem with this file. On OS-X Photoshop says:

Could not open xerox_color.tif because the TIFF file uses an unsupported colour space.

and OS-X Preview says:

Couldn’t open the file. It may be corrupt or a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize.

Graphic Converter 4.8 CAN open the file, and in the file information it says that the format is TIFF (YCbCr) and for Comment it has TIFF JPEG/.Striped(1)/Non Planar

On Windows XP, the Fax and Picture Viewer doesn't complain when asked to open it but just shows a blank canvas. Paint says it's an unsupported format. Irfan View CAN open the file and in Information it says for Compression Old JPEG (in TIFF).

I've tried with IM 6.3.1 on OS-X and also with some other version on Linux, where it didn't work either.

If needed, I can supply an image file for testing.
