It also makes it easier if you do ALL image processing in the right
order.
EG: read the image BEFORE processing it!!!!
convert -size 400x200 img.jpg \
-thumbnail '80x>' -crop 80x60+0+0 +repage \
imgnew.jpg
When you process the image using the old 'legacy' style... See...
http://www.cit.gu.edu.au/~anthony/graphics/imagick6/basics/#legacy
The order of commands are NOT guranteed!!!!!
If you want to pad it out the image as well you can use...
convert -size 400x200 img.jpg \
-thumbnail '80x>' -crop 80x80+0+0\! \
-background white -flatten \
imgnew.jpg
The 'viewport crop' (the ! in the crop argument)
http://www.cit.gu.edu.au/~anthony/graphics/imagick6/crop/#crop_viewport
is new to IM v6.2.4-5. Do not repage the image after that crop, as
the -flatten operator uses and cleans it up.
For more details on all these type of operations see Thumbnailing
