First, I'm using the version bundled with Ubuntu Breezy.

Version: ImageMagick 6.2.3 01/24/06 Q16 http://www.imagemagick.org
Copyright: Copyright (C) 1999-2005 ImageMagick Studio LLC

When I use convert, the process is very disk intensive with almost no CPU usage and I appear to have RAM to spare. Why isn't ImageMagick using all of my RAM? With the RAM full, the processor should get more action.

Below is some useful information.

The command I'm running:

convert -verbose -monochrome -compress group4 gray0008.jpg gray0008.tif

*** My memory consumption ***

I have several other apps running, but notice the 700,000 + MB free. Why isn't ImageMagick using this?

Thanks.
