| interesting syntax. i do not understand in detail. which shell are you using?
|
| in bash, i'd use
|
| ## for f in *jpg; do display $f; done
|
| is this similar?

You are right. I missed a semicolon. :-)
But as psuedo code it is correct.

| the bash line serially starts a new process for each
| image. but even if i did this:
|
| ## display 1.jpg &
| ## display 2.jpg &
|
| it is not possible to copy/paste (for example) between the two images.
| and if i do this:
|
| ## display 1.jpg &
| ## display -remote 2.jpg &
|
| display ends up loading 2.jpg in the same window that held 1.jpg
|
| any ideas?

Yes.. use a more advance image editor

   gimp *.jpg

Display is really just that display, any image.
It was never ment to be a full image editor.

It was actually created when no image editors were generally available.
In fact it even pre-dates 'xv' and that is saying something!

Note "xv" can only display one image at a time, but that does not stop you
from cutting and pasting between different images. Display is probably
the same.
