What do you mean "to no avail"? You should be able to run the command without any args and get the usage information. Is this working for you? For example, this is what it looks like when I run convert:
$ /usr/local/bin/convert
Version: ImageMagick 6.2.8 07/18/06 Q8 http://www.imagemagick.org
Copyright: Copyright (C) 1999-2006 ImageMagick Studio LLC

Usage: convert [options ...] file [ [options ...] file ...] [options ...] file

Where options include:
  -adaptive-sharpen geometry
adaptively sharpen pixels; increase effect near edges
  -adjoin join images into a single multi-image file
  -affine matrix       affine transform matrix
  -annotate geometry text
[many more opts here...]

I just installed imagemagick on my server, and now i am trying to figure out
how to use it. I know i have to run it from the command line, but how
exactly do i do this? I have SSH and i changed the directory to the
imagemagick parent folder. I then tried running a few commands, but to no
avail. Any detailed help on what exactly i need to do to get going is
greatly appreciated.
