If you don't want to resample because you don't want to alter the original image then perhaps -density is what your after. from 6.2.4 docs: ..snip: The density option is an attribute and does not alter the underlying raster image. It may be used to adjust the rendered size for desktop publishing purposes by adjusting the scale applied to the pixels.
