| JPEG and GIF only have 8-bit versions, so there will almost certainly
| be no benefit to using Q16. It is possible to have 16-bit PNGs, but if
| you have to ask, you probably don't have to worry about it.

If there is any benifit it is in holding the extra precision during
processing of images. Particularly heavy mathematical processing in
generating shaded images, distortion, and convolution processing and
enhancements of very dark and light photos.

The drawback in not only more memory but also lots more processing.
You shouldn't need to worry about it, except if you use color level
arguments that are not percentages.
