| but there is no output on screen from identify (but again, just a file in
| local directory called miff:-).

| I'm using ImageMagick version 6.3.3 03/12/07 Q8 on redhat. Size of my test
| image is 1100x500 pixels with 24 bit.

What OS and IM version, are you using?
Because that behaviour is definateally not normal.
