I am a newbie trying to learn and use IM on Windows XP.
I have had success but one thing is still giving me troubles.
I am trying to create a web-site of historical photos and
documents. Previously, I had a friend us a commercial program
to resize and shrink the photos (mainly JPEGs from digital
cameras and TIFs from scans). He resized them to approx. 875x700.

One operation I am trying to do is to add a caption. My idea was
that when the user clicks on a thumbnail, it brings up a large
image (with a caption) in the browser. I am trying to use IM
to add a "caption" block on the bottom of each photo. I have
been able to create the caption blocks (x700) but whenever I
try to add them to the bottom of the large image, I get a
"... do you want to send Microsoft ..." error message similar
to this:

    AppName: convert.exe AppVer: 6.3.5.0 ModName: ntdll.dll
    ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 Offset: 00017a8c

Here is one of the commands that gives the error above:
    montage Photo_437.jpg Photo_437_caption.gif Photo_437_montage.jpg

This happens whenever I have tried to either Montage or Convert.
I have tried Splice and Append but with the same error. The
error also occurs whenever I try to create Thumbnails.

These commands seem to work on newer photos that I have used
IM to resize and shrink. So what did my friend do to the
photos that IM does not like? Any help would be appreciated.
