| FYI, using identify with '[0]' seems to read the whole image sequence.

That is unfortunatally how IM works in general. It is a general image
processor after all.
The better way to handle the break up and re-joining of separate frames
in a long 'movie' is to use the tools designed specifically for this
purpose.
For example... mencoder
