Hello Wolfgang,
Your link
http://www.all-in-one.ee/~dersch/barrel/barrel.html.
redirects to http://360pano.eu/
and there is no sign of Helmut Dersch's work there that I can find.
But he is well-known for his panorama work and camera distortion
correction.
I think the correct link is
http://www.all-in-one.ee/~dersch/barrel/barrel.html
(without the ending period)
Fred
Hello again,
digging somewhat deeper, I have just fond out that there is a portation
of PTlens to Linux called clens. The SourceForge project in which is is
contained is called "Panorama Tools" and can be found at
http://panotools.sourceforge.net. The source code of clens is GPL and
can be found at http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=96188.
Looking at the code, one gets a quite precise idea how PTlens performs
its excellent barrel / pincussion correction. The code makes the PTlens
database available so that you can readily look up the correction
factors for certain camera models.
Helmut Dersch's original thoughts on the subject (that seem to have laid
the basis for PTlens) can be found at
http://www.all-in-one.ee/~dersch/barrel/barrel.html.
It seems like quite a lot of work is already done...
Greetings from Germany
Wolfgang Hugemann
