Use a font that represents bold, is the best way.
The alturnative is to draw the text, and then merge multiple copys of
the text with slight differences in position (say X+1 pixel) Though it
would not be as good as a proper bold font for the font family you are
using.
Outline fonts can be generated in simular ways.
