>Finally got to your images by removing the "local." from your link.
Damn. Sorry about that - was too distracted at work to notice that I'd set up a wild goose chase. The correct links are as follows (for archival purposes) Original <<http://local.fu2k.org/alex/images/png8/original.png>http://fu2k.org/alex/images/png8/original.png> Photoshop conversion (CS3, exported as PNG8) <<http://local.fu2k.org/alex/images/png8/photoshop.png>http://fu2k.org/alex/images/png8/photoshop.png> ImageMagick conversion <<http://fu2k.org/alex/images/png8/imagemagick.png>http://fu2k.org/alex/images/png8/imagemagick.png> >(Also my browser kept telling me it was JPEG, but I forced it to be >PNG when saving it) Thanks for pointing that out. >However, your image is not boolean transparency (see last line of >histogram just below), so PNG8 may force it to be and mess it up. So, RTFM'ing http://www.imagemagick.org/Usage/formats/#png_formats (sorry, don't know why I couldn't find this before) " PNG8 was defined by PhotoShop, not the PNG group. And while it can handle multiple semi-transparent colors, as well as a fully-transparent color, IM assumes that it doesn't. This provides a way to force files to still be readable by Internet Explorer v6. The "Photoshop CS" program can read it." Leaving aside the fact that this seems to be a bit of a flaw in IM's handling... I can output the originals again (they're SVGs rasterized by Batik) but on a solid background that I can remove when converting to png8. However, I'm still intrigued as to what the best way of proceeding woulf be if I didn't have the luxury of rerunning that first step. I tried making a mask and applying that but I still ended up with the black disappearing. >However, I think you have a bug. ..... >But this does not using PNG8: >convert jobs_original.png GIF:- | convert - PNG8:jobs_original_gif_png8.png > >coders/png.c:6990: failed assertion `(unsigned long) packet_index < >number_colors' >Abort trap It works fine for me. I'm using ImageMagick 6.4.9-4 2009-02-13 Q16 _______________________________________________ Magick-users mailing list [email protected] http://studio.imagemagick.org/mailman/listinfo/magick-users
