Sorry, I wrote that from memory and was clearly inaccurate. I didn't mean 'reduce', I meant 'resize'.
I don't want to make the images 600x600 as they aren't square; I just want a height of 600. That part of the command works fine. Changing the quality setting also makes little difference; the problem is in the downsampling, not the jpeg quality. I'm using the gentoo version of imagemagick; I believe the jasper libraries are fine. What I was wondering is whether there is any good way to prefilter images of text that will help prevent the ringing caused by using the generic prefilter used by the 'resize' operation.
