Hello everybody

We installed ImageMagick 6.6.0 32-bit Q8 on a Windows 2003 Server and
observed that it added the following registry key:

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications]
"AutoRun"="C:\\Program Files (x86)\\ImageMagick-6.6.0-Q8\\convert.exe $*"

Now I did some research as to why this could be useful and only found
some quite old article [1] about the problems distinguishing Microsoft's
convert.exe (FAT to NTFS conversion) and ImageMagick's own convert.exe.
The solution outlined consists of adding a new Autorun registry key like
this:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Command Processor]
"AutoRun"="doskey convert=%MAGICK_HOME%\\convert.exe $*"

So this is clearly not the same compared to what the ImageMagick
installer is doing.

Can anybody tell me why ImageMagick's Windows installer adds this
regsitry key?

Thanks in advance!
Nicola
