Rather than hiding the functionality behind two keystrokes for *all* uses,
would it make more sense to implement the two levels as:

'l' displays the most common (short?) log

in the log display, 'L' switches to long log, 's' to grep the current display
mode, etc?

That way the most common action is quickly and easily accessible[1], without
needing to reduce the additional features available.


It would certainly be nicer for my use of magit, anyhow. :)

[1]  ...and adding a customize option for "default log mode" is probably easy
     enough to address situations where individual taste might differ from the
     popular opinion about "most common".
