On AIX (with my set up) it is terribly slow.  I assumed it was something to  do 
with emacs and AIX rather than magit.  I posted a question on emacs long ago 
but got no replies.  I don't use magit that often on AIX so I have not spent 
the time to track it down.

For me, it appears to be something to do which emacs polling for the status of 
the process.

That probably doesn't help but I thought I'd mention it in the off chance it 
might.
